Quantitative* SARS-CoV-2 (RBD) IgG Antibody Test

Measures antibodies that bind to the Receptor Binding Domain (RBD) of the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2. The assay has been validated in serum, plasma and dried blood spots from finger sticks.

This test is available for $75 as self-pay.

Note: Antibody testing is not currently recommended to assess for immunity to COVID-19 following COVID-19 vaccination or to assess the need for vaccination in an unvaccinated person. Please refer to the FDA website for further information around antibody testing recommendations.

This test has not been approved or cleared by the FDA. This test has not been issued an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) by the FDA.

This test does not tell you if you have an active COVID-19 infection and should not be used for the diagnosis of COVID-19.

This test requires a prescription and is not an at-home test.

The SARS-CoV-2 (RBD) IgG Antibody Test is significantly associated with an independent CLIA-validated neutralization activity test

Neutralization assays are cellular assays that measure the ability of antibodies to block or limit a virus from infecting cells. The gold standard methods, which use live virus and require special facilities and safety precautions, are expensive to perform and are not practical for broader clinical testing. The SARS-CoV-2 (RBD) IgG Antibody Test is significantly associated with a third party CLIA-validated neutralization activity test. Read our Performance Summary for more details.

COVID-19 Serology FAQ

A COVID-19 serology test measures antibodies that your body has produced in response to SARS-CoV-2.

Neutralizing antibodies are an important part of your body’s immune response because they may block or limit the SARS-CoV-2 virus from infecting cells in your body.

A qualitative COVID-19 serology test provides only a yes/no answer about the presence of antibodies. It is not valid to accurately provide the level of antibodies. The majority of currently available tests, including rapid tests, fall into this category.

A quantitative COVID-19 serology test provides information about the level of antibodies.

No. For example, some qualitative tests measure antibodies that bind other viral antigens and are not associated with neutralizing activity. Consult with your physician when choosing which test to get.

Consult with your physician on the appropriate time to get tested.

Please refer to the FDA website for further information around antibody testing recommendations.

Not necessarily. The medical community’s understanding of SARS-CoV-2 and immunity is still evolving. Consult your physician when making decisions about your health and COVID-19. Antibody testing is not currently recommended to assess for immunity to COVID-19 following COVID-19 vaccination or to assess the need for vaccination in an unvaccinated person.

Please refer to the FDA website for further information around antibody testing recommendations.
